Severstal

February 24, 2005

Yesterday JSC Severstal started implementing the next stage of coking plant ? 3 revamping - refractory masonry

Therefore, above the coking plant basement the construction of the building that will allow ensuring temperature conditions, necessary for refractory brickwork making, as well as its protection from atmospheric forcing. According to the schedule, construction stage will take 3.5 months. During this period of time 13.9 thousand tons refractories of more than 600 nominal sizes will be laid. Delivery of refractories to five zones of CP ?3 will be accomplished in February.

On completion of this reconstruction stage the assembly of processing equipment will start; after that the heating of the coking plant will start. First coke pushing is scheduled for December 2005. New plant will have 61 ovens with the capacity of 21,6 cubic meters, with the total output of 460 thousand tonns of coke per year. The plant will be marked by a high level of processing automation.

Concurrently within the project the construction of a number of other objects will be carried out, including environmental facilities, which will allow to decrease impact on environment. In order to achieve this, new production facilities will permit dustless coke pushing. Implementation of this technology during coking plants ? 5 and ? 6 revamping allowed to reduce coke dust emissions into the atmosphere by 700 tonns per year.

As we have already reported, the CP revamping is being implemented according to the designed pig iron production volumes and is to ensure the necessary coke balance. At present the company is leading the program of increasing the production volumes and is considering the further modernization of the Coke-Oven Plant facilities, which 100% satisfy Severstal demand in coke.  Within 2004 coke production growth made up 101.3 % as compared to 2003.
