Severstal

January 13, 2005

In 2004 Severstal produces more than 9 mln tons commercial rolled products

Commenting on the results of Severstal production activities, Mr.Anatoly Kruchinin, Severstal General Manager, remarked the company's monthly production targets had been hit throughout the year. The company successfully fulfilled the yearly  production program regarding the output of the commercial rolled products and shipped to the consumers almost 9.3 mln. tons of the products. The growth in 2004 appeared to be 5.5% higher as compared to the year of 2003.

In 2004, Severstal increased the quantity of the shipped products with high value added cost, in particular, the amount of cold-rolled products, including extra-thin and coated steel products.

According to Mr. A.Kruchinin, the production volume growth was achieved for all types of the products: coke output reached 101.3 % to the level of the previous year, sinter - 104.6%, hot metal - 103.7% and steel - 105.6%.

The production volume growth was made possible due to the fact that the consumption coefficients were strictly adhered to (e.g. the hot metal consumption while producing steel) and due to certain Commercial Administration's transactions on purchasing the necessary quantity of primary products and materials.

Along with the above mentioned activities, Severstal continued the implementation of its investment plan. Some of the investment plan major events are to be completed by the end of the first semester of 2005. This will permit to increase steel production mainly for account of the high valued products.
