JSC “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines” and Association of Chess Federations together with the Committee on Tourism of the Moscow Government have announced that from February 14 till February 24 chess tournament «Aeroflot Open 2005» will be held in the Russian Capital with the prize-money of 150 thousand USD.
This is the forth time the tournament is held. Both the chess players with FIDE rating and the ones having none will be able to take part in the competition: this is a competition for the masses, it is to be held in three qualification groups.
Each year the tournament is getting more and more popular. 644 chess players participated in «Aeroflot Open 2005», with 164 grand masters from 52 countries among them.
The tournament was submitted to the Guinness Book in Russia in nomination of the number of the participants. S. Rublevsky, the winner took part in the super-tournament which was held in Germany in Dortmund.
Now the participants of the coming competition are being registered.
In three groups there will be awarded prize-money and also special prizes for women, veterans, juniors, creative prizes, etc.
The opening ceremony will be held on February 14 in “Russia” Hotel. The competition is to be closed and the awarding ceremony held on February 24.
