BACKGROUND: MTU-Intel (trade mark Tochka Ru) is a leading Russian Internet operator providing a full spectrum of Internet services. MTU-Intel is a member of the Sistema Telekom group of companies. The company was incorporated by the SISTEMA JSFC, MGTS and MTU-Inform companies. MTU-Intel owns several telecommunications companies, in particular, Golden Line, Trans TS, and PTT-stroi.
In September 2001, the Documentary Electrical Communication Association (Russian acronym ADE) pronounced MTU-Intel the best Internet provider of the year. A month later, MTU-Intel won the annual national prize in business and was named the Company of the Year 2001 in the Internet Provider of the Year nomination. In November 2002, the company received a national award in marketing and advertising, Brand of the Year/EFFIE, and its trademark Tochka Ru was named the best brand of the year 2002 in the High-Technology Services nomination.
