North-West Telecom operating activity totals in Vologda region for year 2004

NWT JSC branch Elektrosvyaz of Vologda region totalized the results of operation for 2004.

In 2004, the proceeds of the branch increased by 20.6 % and comprised more than RUR 1 billion 300 million.

In 2004, the total volume of investments of North-West Telecom JSC to the developing of communication facilities in Vologda region comprised RUR 340 million. Using these funds, 14 telephone exchanges were built in Vologda, Cherepovets, Gryazovets, Belozersk and Fedotovo settlement. Commissioning of these exchanges allowed increasing the level of digitalization in Vologda region up to 70% and reduced the waiting list for telephone installation by 15 thousand subscribers.

As of 1 January 2005, the total installed telephone network capacity of the Vologdaelektrosvyaz was more than 350 thousand numbers. The total number of subscribers of the subsidiary is almost 320 thousands.

One of the priority and socially significant directions of activity of North-West Telecom JSC in 2004 was implementation of the programme for a free-of-charge telephone installation to veterans of the World War II. In Vologda region the access to the telephone network is provided to 598 participants and disabled veterans of the World War II.

In the framework of North-West Telecom unified project, branch Vologdaelektrosvyaz began to set up the convergent network. In 2004, the construction of the fiber-optic communication line Vologda–Sheksna – Cherepovets was completed. So, pre-requisite for the development of rural communication and provision to the oblast population of the entire complex of modern telecommunication services was created. Simultaneously, put into operation the fiber-optic communication line Vologda – Veliky Ustyug with a length of 550 km has began.

The cable TV network was actively developed. Six new programs were added to the already available 30 channels that are watched by 4. 5 thousand of Vologda inhabitants. 200 people use the inverse CTV channel for a high-speed access to the Internet network.

In 2004, the branch Vologdaelektrosvyaz proposed to Vologda inhabitants a range of new services among which there are the IP-telephony and ADSL. The development of the accessible Internet service continues. Now connection to the network without the advance payment and signing the agreement can be made not only by the Vologda inhabitants, but also by the inhabitants of the oblast districts.
