Yesterday at 20:50 Moscow time, the first gas from the Pestsovaya area of the Urengoy gas and oil condensate field was supplied to the Russian Unified gas supply system.

The natural gas was supplied to the UGS system from the complex gas treatment plant N16 via a newly built gas pipeline of 1420 mm in diameter and 47 km in length.

20 wells are operated at the Pestsovaya area currently, and average daily production is 10 million cubic meters. 61 wells are planned to be brought into operation by the end of 2004. These wells will produce 1.5 - 2 billion cubic meters of gas this year.

In 2005, production at the Pestsovaya area is planned to reach 12.6 billion cubic meters of gas, and 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas, the design capacity, by the end of 2006.

Alexei Miller, Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee, said: "Bringing the Pestsovaya area into operation is an important element in fulfilling Gazprom's long term strategy aimed at gas production increase and developing new large oil and gas fields.

The Pestsovaya area will have an important place among other fields brought into operation recently, including Zapolyarnoye, Vyngayakhinskoye, En-Yakhinskoye, Eti-Purovskoye and others.

It is sufficient to say that the Pestsovaya area production volume will in 2006 match our supplies to the largest consumer of the Russian produced natural gas - Germany".

The Pestsovaya are of the Urengoi field is located in Nadym district of Yamalo-Nenetsk autonomous region, 160 km to the north-west from the city of Novii Urengoi. The field was discovered in 1974.
