On October 7, 2003, in the afternoon, the Moscow region was hit by a storm. The strong wind damaged many AO MOSENERGO high voltage electric lines at 25 m/sec. As a result of the storm, around 50 of AO MOSENERGO’s 110, 220 and 500 kV lines and 1,809 substations went out of operation. The most serious damage was done to Shatura, Kolomna, Podolsk, Volokolamsk, Mozhaisk, Oktyabrskiye and Zapadnye grids
AO MOSENERGO started to redress the damages before the end of the storm. In extremely difficult conditions, emergency teams restored the power supply for most consumers. In addition, AO MOSENERGO specialists assisted municipal companies to redress the damage at local distribution grids.
Presently, the Company is continuing to eliminate the consequences of the storm. AO MOSENERGO resumed operation of four high-voltage substations ("Trudovaya", "Avsyunino", "Cherusti" and "Krug"). Today, AO MOSENERGO expects to completely restore the damaged facilities.
