A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman and Leonid Tyagachev, President of Russia’s Olympic Committee, was held yesterday at Gazprom’s Headquarters.
The parties discussed the progress in implementing the Cooperation Agreements adopted. In particular, the meeting addressed the issue of Russia’s National Team’s preparations for the Olympic Games to be held in Athens.

Gazprom serves as the general sponsor of Russia’s Olympic Committee. In 2001, for the 1st time in the Company’s history, Gazprom adopted the long-term Cooperation Program with Russia’s Olympic Committee. The working group specially established for this purpose devised the Plan of Joint Activities. In particular, on 15 October 2001, the parties signed the Cooperation Agreement. A. Miller awarded L. Tyagachev with a USD 600 thousand cheque. The funds received were allotted for training Russian sportsmen for the Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City.
On 25 November 2002, Gazprom and Russia’s Olympic Committee signed the Cooperation Agreements. The Agreements primarily aimed to develop the Olympic Movement and mass sport in Russia, to propagate a healthy way of life, support youth sports organizations and revive the country’s spiritual heritage.
Under the Papers signed, Gazprom is rendering the sponsorship and charitable aid for the total amount of USD 3 million to the Olympic Committee. The bulk of these funds are intended for training the National Selection on the threshold of the XXVIII Olympic Games to be held this year in Athens.
