Gazprom delegation visits Alaska

A Gazprom delegation visited the city of Ankorage (the USA, Alaska). The delegation comprised Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee, Valery Golubev, Alexander Medvedev, Mikhail Sereda and Sergey Khomyakov, Deputy Chairmen of the Management Committee, Viktor Ilyushin, Vasily Podyuk and Vlada Rusakova, Members of the Management Committee, and Oleg Aksyutin, Head of the Department of Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization, as well as Leonid Chugunov, Director General of Yamalgazinvest. The delegation also included representatives of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Administration – Leonid Khudi, Deputy Director of the Department for Indigenous Peoples of the North and Olesya Lamdo, Leading Specialist of the Youth Policy Department.

A scientific research seminar was held under the theme “Advanced Experience of Large Upstream and Midstream Projects in the Extreme North Environment: Technologies, Ecology and Social Responsibility”.

Within the seminar the delegation met with representatives of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources – Tom Irwin, Marty Ruthenford and Kevin Banks; top management of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation and James Mulva, Chief Executive Officer of ConocoPhillips.

It was emphasized at the meetings and seminars that the working conditions in the traditional areas of Gazprom’s business activity were similar to the ones in Alaska. Gazprom has gained an extensive experience in hydrocarbon field development, gas pipeline construction and operation, environmental protection and resolution of social problems in the Extreme North environment. Gazprom’s experience will be used while implementing similar projects in Alaska. The scientific and technical cooperation in this area has great prospects.

It was pointed out during the seminar that the most reasonable approach to exploiting hydrocarbon resources could be the elaboration of the Comprehensive Program for the development of a gas production, transportation and gas supply system in the State of Alaska. The presentations also underlined that simultaneously with two most discussed projects for the construction of gas pipelines from Alaska, it was necessary to consider the prospects for creating the regional LNG capacities.

During the visit Gazprom’s delegation had a business lunch with Wally Hickel, Ex-Governor of Alaska.
