Moscow, 24 March 2005. OAO "Research Institute for Power Engineering Facilities" (NIIES) of RAO "UES of Russia" will take part in the 2005 World Exposition (EXPO-2005), which starts 25 March, in Aichi, Japan.
In the Russian section of the Exhibition, NIIES will demonstrate its new technology solutions relating to the use of renewable and environmentally sound energy of ocean tides and the creation of new and efficient orthogonal hydraulic units for tidal power stations (TPS) and low-head hydro power plants (HPP). In particular, visitors to the NIIES booth will be able to see a working model of a powerful TPS equipped with orthogonal hydraulic units, which is made by factory method from floating modules.
The testing performed in 2004 at the Senezh HPP and the Kislogubskaya TPS demonstrated that the coefficient of performance of the Russian-made orthogonal hydraulic units reaches 70%, while that of their foreign counterparts is less than 38%.
The technology used in the standard module of a TPS building is also of considerable interest, as is it can be used for the installation of modular nuclear shore power units (which may help to extend the life of nuclear power plants three- to fourfold), installations for desalination of sea water and hydrogen production, and other important power projects implemented within the framework of international cooperation and aimed at ensuring efficient, safe and reliable power supply.
