Sergei Alekseev, who previously occupied the post of ecological advisor to the General Director, has been named as Deputy General Director on Environmental Management and Ecology. Mr. Alekseev's duties will include the development and implementation of ecological policies and the company's approach to developing its mineral and raw materials resources, as well as the planning and realisation of activities in the area of environmental management and conservation. He will also be responsible for the development, implementation and certification of the company's ecological management system and its geological prospecting activities.
A Brief Biography:
Sergei M. Alekseev was born in 1954 in Moscow. He graduated from the I. M. Gubkin Petrochemical and Gas Industries Institute (Moscow) in 1976 as a mining engineer and geophysicist, having also engaged in post-graduate studies at the same institute. He has worked at the Ministry of Geology of the Russian Soviet Republic and the Soviet Academy of Sciences' Institute of Earth Magnetism. From 1989 to 2000 he headed the Soviet - Austrian concern Geosoft, and Amethyst Bank, specialising in the financing of geological projects, before moving on to Group Geosoft A. From 2000 to 2001, he was Executive Director of the Russian Federal Ecological Fund, and occupied the post of Chairman of the Russian Federal Chamber of Trade and Industry's Committee for Environmental Management and Ecology. This year he became ecological advisor to the General Director of MMC Norilsk Nickel. Mr. Alekseev is a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and is a doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. |
