May 11, 2009, Moscow: COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading operator of integrated telecom services in Russia and the CIS, invites everyone to visit an exposition stand of COMSTAR-UTS Group during the 22nd International Exposition Sviaz/Expo Comm 2010 to be held till May 14 in the Expocenter Fairgrounds on Krasnaya Presnya.

COMSTAR-UTS participates in the largest exhibition for telecommunications, control systems, information technologies and communication services as part of the single exhibition stand of AFK Sistema together with its parent company, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS, NYSE: MBT).

“This decision has been caused by several factors. COMSTAR has become a part of MTS Group, and this is the first time that we will present joint convergent products as well as fixed and mobile communication solutions for all market segments: individuals, SOHO, corporate customers,” Maxim Chernov, COMSTAR-UTS Marketing Director, says. “Besides, the stand will exhibit innovations that enhance user experience related to broadband and value-added services.”

The joint exposition of COMSTAR-UTS is based on the digital home concept, i.e. a model of the town apartment fitted with all telecom appliances for home use from digital telephony (Personal Telephone Number service provided by MGTS) to interactive digital TV (IPTV), which may now be watched both on a TV screen and a PC monitor (STREAM TV on PC service). The stand will also demonstrate product boxes that allow users to set up an ADSL connection by themselves: Home Internet by MTS-STREAM and Internet Package by MGTS.

This year, COMSTAR-UTS will present a number of gadgets with which subscribers will be able to create their own private information space and use multiple communication channels at a time. The devices include ColibriComstar netbook with embedded WiMAX, 3G, Wi-Fi and GPRS/EDGE units, new Fonera Stone router for connection to FON, the global Wi-Fi network, and ZTE ZXV10 W300 wireless router, a state-of-the-art smart modem that supports ADSL and Wi-Fi technologies as well as TV services and helps users arrange high-speed Internet connection at home, get connected to IPTV with the ability to watch it on a PC screen and to the COMSTAR-FON service.

In addition, visitors can become familiar with prototypes of innovative subscriber equipment, which is now being tested by COMSTAR and promotes the concept of “seamless communication environment” being implemented by the company. They include Wi-Spot, a mobile wireless system that provides distribution of the signal received using WiMAX to other Wi-Fi devices, as well as a promising technology called Wireless Display developed by Intel to enable wireless video streaming to external devices. This technology allows watching high-definition slide shows, presentations or videos on a home TV or office plasma display panel with a sound generated by a notebook, for example.

Convergent solutions based on the mix of technologies by MTS, COMSTAR and MGTS will be the main peculiarity of the joint exhibition: product box for individual customers that combines fixed and mobile Internet access; universal router, i.e. a multifunction device enabling access to various telecom services (Internet, TV) using ADSL2/2+, 3G, WiMAX and Wi-Fi/FON interfaces.

Another section of the exhibition stand is a blog center created for those visitors who keep live journals and actively use other features of Web 2.0. A wireless Internet access area has been arranged for these visitors; access is provided using ColibriComstar netbooks, notebooks with WiMAX modems and Wi-Spot.
