The new 220 kV substation will provide power to new residential blocks in the district of Zyuzino. New apartment blocks there are being constructed under the Moscow Government Housing Program.

Akademicheskaya will be the most advanced substation in the AO MOSENERGO system. It will be equipped with an automated monitoring system, which will increase efficiency and simplify the technical process. The substation will also be equipped with ABB's SF6 switches, which are more reliable than old oil switches. The substation will have noise reduction equipment, which will help to lower noise to required levels.

The new substation will be smaller than other stations and have a modern look. The special ice-melting system will be installed on the roof of the substation to prevent the formation of icicles. The substation grounds will be monitored by a video security system.

The construction of the substation began last July. Nearly 600 mln rubles will be invested in this project, which will be solely financed by AO MOSENERGO funds. The construction has been almost completed. Currently, AO MOSENERGO has begun to install power equipment. The complex testing of the substation is scheduled for November. Afterwards, Akademicheskaya substation will be put into operation.
