Gazprom’s delegation visits Republic of Tajikistan

Led by Valery Golubev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee, a Gazprom delegation today paid a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

As part of the visit Valery Golubev met with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov and Tajik Energy and Industry Minister Gul Sherali. The parties addressed the progress with the bilateral relations and the outlook for further cooperation deepening between Gazprom and the Republic of Tajikistan.

Based on the meeting results the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Gazprom inked the Agreement on the general principles of geological survey at oil and gas prospects in the Republic of Tajikistan (Rengan, Sargazon, Sarykamysh, Zapadny Shaambary).

The parties confirmed their interest in further reinforcing the mutually beneficial long-term partnership between Gazprom and Tajikistan in the energy sector.

Reference:

Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Gazprom is regulated by the long-term (till 2028) Agreement on Strategic Cooperation in the Gas Industry of May 15, 2003 and the Memorandum of Intent on setting up a joint venture between Russia and Tajikistan of March 28, 2006.

Since July 2006 Gazprom has been engaged in securing the launch of geological exploration activities on the territory of Tajikistan. The said activities are viewed by Gazprom as a preliminary project, the success of which – detection of commercially attractive hydrocarbon fields – will permit to create a basis (resource base) for the foregoing joint venture’s business in the mid-term perspective.

Gazprom’s projects on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan are operated by Zarubezhneftegaz, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The company is operator of Gazprom’s foreign investment projects in the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa as well as in the former Soviet Union countries.
