Results of circuit Meeting of Gas Industry Commission for developing fields and using natural resources

On 9-14 April the city of Sochi hosted a circuit Meeting of the Gas Industry Commission for developing fields and using natural resources as well as Gazprom’s 10th Coordinating Geological Meeting.

The Meetings were attended by Alexander Ananenkov, the Commission’s Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, Vasily Podyuk, Gazprom’s Management Committee Member and Head of the Company’s Gas, Gas Condensate and Oil Production Department as well as by heads and experts from Gazprom’s Administration and subsidiaries.

A. Ananenkov presented key report on the strategy of Gazprom’s development.

"To retain and sustain the standing reached, Russia as a global oil and gas power must implement within the nearest 25-30 years the policy aimed at continuously building up gas and hydrocarbon production. The pivot of this growth is the resource base represented as by available reserves as by undiscovered potential hydrocarbon resources. By developing these, we’ll be able to expand gas, gas condensate and oil recovery," – stressed A. Ananenkov.

In order to ensure the targeted gas production growth up to 590 bcm in 2020 and 630 bcm, in 2030, Gazprom’s outlets should annually build up gas reserves by not less than 700 bcm until 2015 and 750-800 bcm, in 2016-2030.

At the same time, the analysis of the hydrocarbon withdrawal dynamics shows that such basic fields as the Urengoiskoye and Yamburgskoye ones will be significantly developed by 2020 and the Medvezhye, Yubileinoye and a string of other fields will fully deplete their recoverable resources.

Given these conditions, a strategy should be devised to produce hydrocarbons in 2020-2030 and the long-term prospective, to be accomplished basically through the timely conducted prospecting.

In A. Ananenkov’s opinion, the most promising territories for developing and sustaining the resource base and, thus, for conducting large-scale geological survey will be: North-western Siberia (primarily, the Yamal Peninsula and adjoining offshore areas); Eastern Siberia and the Far East; the shelf of the Kara, Barents and Okhotsk Seas; the Nenets Autonomous Region and the Republic of Komi.

"A strategic direction of Gazprom’s development is the Company’s participation in setting up a united East Siberian and Far Eastern gas production, transmission and supply system. After 2030 we’ll inevitably face a moment when total gas production in the western gas supply sector will experience a decline. Timely establishing a secure resource base in the East is a pre-requisite for ensuring Russia’s energy safety," – maintained A. Ananenkov.

The Commission summed up the results of prospecting conducted by Gazprom in 1993-2003, discussed the Program of works for 2005-2010 as well as examined the issue of sci-tech potential in oil and gas exploration. In addition, the Commission touched upon the issue of improving the prospecting organization and management at Gazprom’s facilities.

The Commission identified basic task to be promptly resolved for enhancing the prospecting efficiency.

Reference:

In 1993-2003 Gazprom discovered 33 fields and 28 hydrocarbon deposits with the total reserve growth averaging 2.2 tcm of gas. RUR 30.7 billion were invested in prospecting within the aforementioned period.

One of the core documents determining Gazprom’s strategy in prospecting is the Program on developing the mineral resource base of the gas industry up to 2030. The Program aims to ensure the Company’s stable operations and expanded development of the mineral resource base.
