Meeting of CIS Electric Power Council and EURELECTRIC Presidents held in Prague

Moscow, 25 June. On 23 June 2003, a joint meeting of the President of CIS Electric Power Council (CIS EPC) Anatoly Chubais and President of EURELECTRIC* Hans Haider was held in Prague.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the results achieved within the framework of co-operation between CIS EPC and EURELECTRIC, including implementation of decisions reached at the previous presidential meeting of 21 November 2002 held in Brussels. The parties assessed the work done in the direction of strengthening co-operation by means of information exchanges in the field of statistics, market reforms and interconnections development as fully satisfactory. The Presidents stressed the importance of receiving results of preliminary load-flow analysis on possible synchronous interconnection of networks of UCTE** and IPS/UPS*** delivered by UCTE. At the same time, EURELECTRIC highlighted its full support for UCTE in further investigations.

The parties voiced their support for starting co-operation between UCTE and CIS EPC on investigations of possibilities of synchronous interconnection of networks of UCTE and IPS/UPS. They decided to organize a seminar on 13-14 November 2003 to present and discuss results of reports prepared by two joint EURELECTRIC-CIS/EPC ad-hoc groups on “Markets” and “Environment”. The seminar is scheduled as a joint EURELECTRIC-CIS/EPC-UCTE event and will deal with market structure, environmental issues and interconnections. The projected seminar will be organized as a platform for triggering political discussion in this matter.

The Prague meeting is the third regular meeting held in accordance with the decision of the Joint Meeting of CIS EPC and EURELECTRIC in Warsaw on 20 March 2002. The next meeting of CIS EPC and EURELECTRIC Presidents is scheduled for 13 November 2003 and will take place in Brussels.
