Fyodor Andreev, President of ALROSA, met with José Eduardo dos Santos, President of the Republic of Angola, in Luanda on April 2, 2013. He also had meetings with Francisco Queiróz, Minister of Geology, Mining and Industry of Angola, as well as with the management of the national diamond mining company, ENDIAMA E.P., and Sociedade Mineira de Catoca.
During these working meetings the parties discussed the prospect of a joint venture between ALROSA and ENDIAMA E.P., which will be engaged in exploration and prospecting operations in the Republic of Angola. As it was noted, the geological material already produced by ALROSA’s specialists in Angola proves there is a high probability to discover new large primary diamond deposits in this country.
The parties also discussed the prospects for developing and implementing the National Programme of Angola aimed at expanding the country’s resources of rough diamonds.
In the run-up to this trip of the ALROSA management team to Angola, Fyodor Andreev, the Russian diamond miner’s President, and Antonio Sumbula, Chairman of the Administrative Council of ENDIAMA E.P., met in Moscow to discuss a possible framework for cooperation in the field of geological exploration. In the near future, ALROSA’s geologists will conduct preliminary work to assess the areas most promising in terms of potential discovery of a primary diamond deposit.
The parties also discussed the results produced by the projects currently run by ALROSA in Angola – Sociedade Mineira de Catoca and Gidroshikapa S.A.R.L. – and prospects for their development.
