IDGC of Volga, PJSC implements the program of transition to smart electricity metering devices

IDGC of Volga, PJSC is gradually creating a system of smart electricity metering with automated data collection. “A reliable, efficient and transparent automated system for smart metering of electricity is one of the mandatory elements of digitalization of the power grid complex.

Its formation requires the widespread introduction of metering devices with remote transmission of information”,-said Vladimir Ryabikin, General Director of IDGC of Volga, PJSC. In the IDGC of Volga, PJSC area of responsibility (included in the Rosseti Group) - Saratov, Samara, Ulyanovsk, Orenburg, Penza regions, the Republic of Mordovia and Chuvashia - more than 262 thousand electricity metering devices with remote transmission of readings have already been installed and operated.

Extensive work on the smart meters introduction began in 2010. They are installed in almost 1,700 locations now. More than 91,900 new metering devices are planned to be installed until 2022. Smart meters provide high-precision metering of active and reactive energy, power and other technological parameters of electricity transported through grids, storage and transmission of accumulated information via digital communication channels.

Installation of metering devices at the balance sheet attribution border in combination with the use of self-supporting insulated wire eliminates the possibility of unauthorized consumption. Smart metering devices free the energy company from the need for regular meter readings by controllers, and the consumer - from the transmission of information on the amount of electricity consumed. Another plus for consumers is the possibility of saving consumption and, accordingly, paying for electricity by accounting for the zones of the day and realizing the benefits of a differentiated tariff. Innovative solutions enabling energy-saving behaviour and equal load distribution in power grids. Installation and maintenance of new metering devices under the current program is free of charge for consumers.
