Manufacture of vehicles meeting EURO-III requirements in terms of ecological safety is being prepared in compliance with a Government programme aimed at conformity of vehicles manufactured in Russia to international requirements. Besides, problems are being resolved regarding export to the countries where EURO-III toxicity standards are accepted. Vehicles meeting EURO-III requirements will be equipped with turbocharged GAZ-5602 diesel engine with intercooler. GAZ-5602 is a further development of GAZ-560 engine which earlier was manufactured by JSC "GAZ" under license with "Steyr" (an Austrian company). "GAZ" design engineers developed a new fuel feeding control system which provides for meeting of EURO-III norms. By the end of the year it is planned to develop design documentation, to carry out validation and certification tests for meeting EEC UNO Regulations and to carry out pre-production of EURO-III vehicles. The first vehicles meeting international ecological standards will roll off the assembly line at the end of 2003, beginning of 2004.
