Moscow, 12 September 2005. The Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais took part in the Third All-Russian Hydropower Conference* held 9-10 September 2005 in the city of Zhigulevsk, Samara Region.
The Conference was attended by 300 participants: representatives of all hydropower plants, hydropower construction entities, key suppliers of hydropower equipment, scientific, research and development institutes specializing in hydropower, Russian and foreign hydrogeneration companies, and the federal and regional authorities.
The Conference focused on the measures to be taken to increase security, reliability and efficiency of Russian hydropower plants and formulation of a long-term action plan to develop Russia's hydropower sector. During the Conference, proposals were made to provide legislative support to the hydropower sector of the electricity industry.
Anatoly Chubais said in a press conference held after the event: "Today's Conference has set the task of boosting efforts aimed at modernization and re-equipment in the hydropower sector. It is a very important event that will have a tangible impact on the developments in the industry".
* The Third All-Russian Hydropower Conference was organized on the initiative of Non-Profit Partnership "Gidroenergetika Rossii" ("Hydropower of Russia"), the Federal Hydrogeneration Company (OAO "HydroWGC"), and RAO "UES of Russia", with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Russia, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Samara Region Administration.
* The Second All-Russian Hydropower Conference took place in St.-Petersburg on 22-23 November 2001.
