Rostelecom sets footprint in Tokyo

The PoP in Tokyo was set up with direct facilitation of a major Japanese carrier KDDI Corporation and represents yet another milestone in Rostelecom strategic drive to expand international connectivity of its own core network. The new PoP was made possible by the launch earlier in September of a new submarine cable system Russia-Japan connecting Rostelecom cable station in Nakhodka and its KDDI counterpart in Naoetsu by two diverse cable links.

“Rostelecom consistently builds up its exposure on the transcontinental route”, - says Konstantin Solodukhin, Rostelecom CEO. The new PoP enables Rostelecom to enhance its offerings in the telecom marketplace and expand high-speed traffic exchange between Europe and Asia along the shortest route leveraging our vast infrastructure capabilities within the framework of Transit Europe-Asia (TEA) project”.

Rostelecom offers its services to all international wholesale and corporate market players providing broad opportunities for delivery of various information types (voice/video, IP based applications) between Europe and Asia via Russia.

Currently Rostelecom backbone network has PoPs in London, Stockholm, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo.

KDDI Corporation is the only Japanese information and communication company that comprehensively provides all communications service, from fixed to mobile. KDDI has over 26 million mobile subscribers and 7.2 million fixed line subscribers. Total annual turnover is JPY3,060 billion. KDDI is aggressively working towards realization of the coming Ubiquitous Network Society through its ability to develop leading-edge fixed and mobile communications networks and services, thus positioning itself as a “comprehensive solution company”.

OJSC Rostelecom (www.rt.ru) is Russia’s national long-distance carrier, providing ŕ wide range of services based on its own transport network of about 150,000 km in length, which enables Rostelecom to carry the bulk of domestic long-distance and international traffic and ensures operation of terrestrial network of TV and sound broadcasting channels. OJSC Svyazinvest is Rostelecom majority shareholder owning 50.67% of voting shares.
