MOSCOW, July 21, 2003 - RUSAL, the world’s second largest aluminium company, announced today that its Samara Metallurgical Plant (RUSAL Samara) has received ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
The certificate is a voluntary, internationally recognized standard. It confirms that all stages of the production process at the plant from projection to utilization meet statutory environmental requirements. Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Norway, an independent registrar organization, carried out the assessments.
Commenting on the achievement, RUSAL’s Production Director, Valery Matvienko said, “Bringing our production facilities into compliance with international environmental requirements is one of our major focuses, and RUSAL Samara’s certification is another important step in that direction. Our consistent environmental policy will help us get all our key plants ISO 14001 certified by mid 2004.”
RUSAL’s ROSTAR beverage can plant, Sayanogorsk Aluminium Smelter, RUSAL SAYANAL (formerly Sayansk Foil Mill) and Dmitrov Metallurgical Plant have all previously received ISO 14001 environmental certification. RUSAL is currently preparing all of its production units for ISO 14 001 certification.
