ALROSA exposition pronounced best at FILDA-2003

The 20th International FILDA-2003 Trade Fair in the Angolan capital Luanda is over.

Over 500 companies from 20 countries, present in Angola, took part in the fair. President of Angola Jose Eduardo dos Santos visited the fair.

The delegation of ALROSA met with heads of some of the Angolan ministries and departments in charge of mining and other related projects, with heads of Angolan mining and construction companies. They discussed the development of co-operation and implementation of the Russian-Angolan joint diamond projects.

On July 21 the Organizing Committee reviewed the fair. ALROSA was awarded the ‘Golden Lion’ in the nomination of ‘Mining manufacturer’ for best exposition focusing on the achievements and prospects of the company, its co-operation with business partners in Angola.

5680 people visited FILDA-2003 during a week, with 5612 people taking the tour of the ALROSA exposition.

ALROSA is a world’s major diamond producer accounting for about 25 per cent of the world diamond output. In 2002 it produced $1466 million worth of rough diamonds, its sales volume amounting to $1557 million, with $106 million from polished diamond sales. ALROSA’s production target for 2003 is $1560 million. The company’s biggest shareholders are the Russian Ministry of State Property (37%), and the Yakutian Ministry for the Management of State Property (32%).

Today ALROSA is engaged in the construction of the second stage at Catoca. It is also working to establish a mining company for the commercial development of the Camatchia and Camagico pipes and begin the implementation of another construction project - of a hydroelectric power plant on the Chicapa River. These new joint projects will enable ALROSA to increase its current level of diamond production in Angola nearly two-fold and cut down production costs, and will help the government of Angola to solve social problems in diamond province of the country.
