The planned growth of electric power consumption in Karelia will amount to 115 percent in 2015 in comparison with 2010.

The perspective development program of power industry of the Karelia Republic for the period till 2015 is approved by the instruction of Government of the Republic of Karelia, as the Government’s press service of Distribution Company reported.

The specially established working group worked on the Program establishment since October of 2009. The group was constituted with chiefs of economic block of Distribution Company’s executive authorities, chiefs and specialists of grid and generating companies, specialists of Karelsk regional dispatching office. As a result a document appeared which determines the Republic’s power strategy for the nearest five years.

The Program’s principle objective is to determine the grid infrastructure’s and generating capacities’ perspective development, provide the long-term and medium-term demand for electric power, establish stable and favorable conditions for investments attraction in the Republic’s economics. The program contains a detailed analysis of the existing situation in the Republic’s power industry, characteristics of the power economy are given, the structure of production and consumption of heat and electric power is worked out, peculiarities and problems of the power industry’s current state are noted which can restrain the economics’ development.

The program contains the principle trends of electric power development of the Republic of Karelia, the list of main power facilities planned for construction and reconstruction is determined.

Due to the large projects implementation in the Republic’s territory in the nearest years, the planned growth of power consumption will amount to 115 percent in 2015 in comparison with 2010. Due to this, the construction of transit arterial highway “Loukhi – Ondskaya hydroplant – Petrozavodsk” is planned in the territory of the Republic; mall hydroplants in Sortavalsky, Kalevalsky regions, Segozersky hydroplant in Segezhsky region. The reconstruction of fifteen and construction of three new substations is planned in the Republic’s regions.
The total capital investments must amount to over RUR 15 bln.
