In the first half of 2003, there were 30 thefts of electric wires from AO MOSENERGO's facilities. This is almost 3.5 times less, than last year (103 thefts). Since January 2003, thieves stole more than 27 km of wire which is 3.3 times less than in 2002. This year, the total damage and expenditures on restoration of power supply amounted to 330,000 roubles.
AO MOSENERGO's department of corporate security (DCS) undertakes an active effort to counteract wire and equipment thefts and sales. Jointly with interior operatives and private security agencies, DCS employees search for illegal shops which buy ferrous and non-ferrous metals. DCS sets ambushes at the cites of repeated thefts, meet with local population to explain the damage from thefts and encourage them to report thefts and suspicious cases of metal sales to interior departments.
The problem of wire thefts is a subject of serious concern for AO MOSENERGO. Thefts cause lengthy power supply disruptions in towns, villages, as well as industrial facilities. Combating thefts is an important task for AO MOSENERGO striving to ensure reliable power supply for consumers.
