Gazprom and Petrobras conduct Science & Technology Seminar

Gazprom’s Headquarters has hosted the Science & Technology Seminar “The Experience of Gazprom in Exploration and Development of Fields, Engineering, Construction and Operation of the Unified Gas Supply System and Gas Mains” with the participation of a delegation from the Brazilian Petrobras oil and gas company.

In the course of the Seminar Gazprom and Petrobras’ specialists exchanged their experience of operations in the gas sector, addressing Gazprom’s capabilities in the engineering and construction of gas mains and natural gas production facilities, scientific aspects of gas main operation and maintenance, experience of oil & gas field exploration and development, and underground gas storage facilities creation.

The Brazilian side reported on Petrobras’ experience of exploring and developing deepwater oil & gas fields.

The delegation from Petrobras paid a visit to the Gazprom Central Production & Dispatch Department and the Belousovskaya compressor station located in the Kaluga region.

During the Seminar Stanislav Tsygankov, Head of the Gazprom International Business Department held a working meeting with Guilherme de Oliveira Estrella, Petrobras’ Exploration & Production Director.

The parties discussed matters linked to the cooperation between Russia and Brazil in the energy sector and expressed mutual interest in joint businesses, including within joint projects implemented in third countries. Special attention was paid to potential joint involvement in projects aimed at creating new international gas transmission networks in Latin America as well as exploring and developing offshore fields.

The parties achieved an accord to shortly develop and ink a framework agreement on cooperation.

Brazil’s proved natural gas reserves account for 330 bcm and are the fifth-largest in Latin America after Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina and Trinidad & Tobago.

The share of natural gas in the country’s primary energy mix stands at 8 per cent, with oil, electric power generation, coal and nuclear energy making up 45, 42, 4 and 1 per cent, respectively.

The major Brazilian oil & gas company is state owned Petrobras (Petroleo Brasileiro S.A.). Founded in 1953, Petrobras is the largest producer and supplier of natural gas to domestic distribution companies, and possesses state-of-the-art oil & natural gas extraction technologies.
