MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

January 23, 2002

In 2001, Moscow TEZs reduced the emission of pollutants by 28.5%

The lower emission of pollutants at Moscow TEZs was mainly ensured through reduction of the amount of coal and fuel oil burnt at Moscow heat stations and increasing the share of gas, as well as environment protection measures. In 2001, Moscow TEZs increased the consumption of gas by 365,700 tons of equivalent fuel (1.9%), while the consumption of fuel oil was lowered by 225,700 tons of equivalent fuel (48.6%).

It should be noted that throughout 2001 none of AO MOSENERGO electric stations exceeded existing requirements for maximum and temporary emissions by any parameters.

In addition, in 2001, the company carried out a number of environmental measures within the Program for Environmental Protection at AO MOSENERGO’s Facilities Until 2010 that was approved by the Moscow government. This program provides for the reconstruction of existing power generating facilities with the aim of improving their “environmental” parameters and implementing new smoke-cleaning systems.

The most outstanding environmental achievements in the past year were the following:

  • Elimination of boilers with high emission of pollutants (the last of these was replaced with a cleaner model at TEZ-23);
  • Development and implementation of less toxic fuel oil burners;
  • Implementation of stationary emission monitoring equipment at GRES-4, TEZ-16, TEZ-20, TEZ-21, TEZ-22, TEZ-25, TEZ-26;
  • Implementation of new technologies for storing and burning liquid fuel at GRES-1, GRES-3, GRES-4, TEZ-12, TEZ-17, TEZ-25, TEZ-26;
  • Installation of noise-reducing equipment at TEZ-20, TEZ-23 and TEZ-21.
