Utilization of innovative power storage systems (PSS) within the electric grid complex was discussed at a meeting of the Rosseti Commission for innovative development management headed by Evgeny Olkhovich, Deputy Director-General for Strategic Development and Technological Innovations.
In addition to the specialists of the Rosseti Group, Yury Udaltsov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of UK RUSNANO LLC, Dmitry Kholkin, Director of the EnergyNet Group of the National Technological Initiative, representatives of the Moscow Physics and Technology Institute, supplier companies of technical solutions joined the Commission.
The participants discussed the results of analytical work done throughout 2018 – 2019 in order to determine the most promising schemes and areas for introduction of new generation energy storage systems at energy facilities. Summarizing the results, a list of pilot projects for the PSS utilization in the power grid complex has been approved.
The projects are planned to be implemented in IDGC of Centre, IDGC of Centre and Volga region, PJSC Lenenergo, IDGC of Urals.
"The development of energy storage systems may significantly improve the power grid efficiency and optimize operating modes of the entire power system. The reliability and quality of power supply will increase from an end user's perspective. Upon the results of the pilot projects, we will decide if we will be implementing them within the Rosseti Group," Yevgeny Olkhovich assessed the prospects for the use of PSS in the company's work.
Yuri Udaltsov, the representative of UK RUSNANO LLC, noted that "many countries are implementing pilot projects on the utilization of PSS in power grids."
"From this perspective, Russian power distribution companies are in keeping with a global trend. The current world trend of reducing the PSS cost increases the economic efficiency of its use," Yuri Udaltsov stressed.
