Preparing to meet the challenges associated with the upcoming fire danger season, specialists of Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC (a subsidiary of Rosseti, JSC), implemented additional fire prevention measures to ensure reliable and safe operation of the power grid facilities. These measures include plowing 4-meter wide firebreaks around the substations to protect the property against forest and grassland fires. Besides, specialists carried out additional inspections of power transformer cooling systems and integrated cable facilities of substations for compliance with Fire Prevention Regulations, removed flammable and fire hazardous items from exclusion zones of the overhead power transmission lines and cut down the adjacent wild vegetation in the area covering 187 ha. In the daytime peak temperature periods, oil-filled substation equipment undergoes additional inspections. In compliance with the work schedule, accident- and fire prevention exercises were held, with participation of administrative, technical, operational, on- and off-line maintenance staff. Besides, recurrent fire safety briefings were held to detail actions to be taken by the staff during periods of high ambient temperatures. Besides, the company updated the applicable rules and regulations for operational teamwork with local fire-fighting services of the EMERCOM of Russia, motor licensing and inspection departments, forest ranger stations, administration of municipalities of the Ulyanovsk regions.
