OJSC Mobile TeleSystems launches intranet roaming in the south of Russia

Moscow, April, 10, 2002. “Mobile TeleSystems” (NYSE:MBT), the largest Russian mobile operator, announces the launch of intranet roaming in the south of Russia through the networks of operators “DonTelekom” (the Rostov region) and “Kuban GSM” (the Krasnodar region, the republic of Adygeja).

The launch of intranet roaming in the networks of Kuban GSM and DonTelekom means a reduction in value for the minute on the territory covered by the operators by 1.5—4 times. The largest decrease is seen with calls to MTS mobile subscribers. For example, if the call for MTS subscriber in Moscow from Krasnodar cost 1 dollar 18 cents during the day and 87 cents at night, — this will now be reduced to only 29 cents in the day and 25 cents at night. Commenting on this event, Michael Susov, the First vice-president of MTS noted: “The launch of an intranet roaming through the networks of Kuban GSM and DonTelekom will allow us to cut down considerably the costs for our subscribers who are spending their vacations on the popular resorts of the Black Sea coast. This region can be said to be the capital of Russia during the summer period — more than 5 million people visited it during the last year”. Subscribers of Kuban GSM and DonTelekom can now also use all advantages of the nationwide MTS’s network by using intranet roaming and preferential tariffs for long-distance calls in the regions. From today, the intranet roaming service is accessible for all subscribers of MTS not only in 31 regions of the uniform network of Mobile TeleSystems, but also in the Republic of Tatarstan (the operator “TAIF-Telkom”) and the Republic of Marii — El (the operator “Martelekom”).

Please see our web-site for more information regarding the intranet roaming tariffs and preferential international calls at www.mtsgsm.com, Section “Roaming and coverage area”.
