Today Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Peter Loescher, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement at the Gazprom headquarters.

The document envisages further development and strengthening of the strategic partnership and cooperation between the companies in the Russian and international markets.

According to the Agreement, the joint projects are expected to be implemented in the following areas:

• gas transmission, storage and utilization;
• gas, gas condensate and oil production;
• liquefied natural gas (LNG);
• automation and metrology;
• electric power;
• innovative development;
• automated control and security systems for buildings and structures;
• ecology and energy saving;
• medical technologies.

An agreement was reached to develop comprehensive strategic cooperation between the companies within the scope of joint development, engineering, production, marketing and service in the energy sector.

“For more than 15 years Gazprom and Siemens have been successfully implementing the joint projects in automation and computerization. Siemens innovative technologies, including digital communications and telecommunications, are widely in use at the Gazprom production facilities. I believe that in the nearest future, bringing together our efforts and experience, we will carry on to work actively in many other key business areas, including creation of the service infrastructure for the Gazprom energy facilities, implementation of the LNG production technologies and energy efficiency projects,” said Alexey Miller.

“The Strategic Partnership Agreement with Gazprom underlines the strong links between Siemens and Russia as well as our Russian customers. Based on the portfolio of products, solutions and services that match exactly the main priorities of the country's economic modernization, infrastructure, and health care, we are gradually implementing the strategy of expanding our regional presence in Russia, and localization. That has been positively received in the country, including Gazprom. That’s why we are confident that the strategic partnership deepening with Gazprom and project implementation on the basis of the energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies will contribute to further sustained development of the Russian economy and both companies,” said Peter Loescher.

Background

Gazprom and Siemens have been actively cooperating since 1993 within telecommunications and process automation projects. In particular, the companies created the Moscow digital communication zone and data transmission network of Gazprom svyaz, the automatic telephone exchange network of Gazprom transgaz Makhachkala, the communications network of Gazprom telecom. The companies also automated the comprehensive gas treatment unit at the Yamburg field.

At the moment, the companies are developing their cooperation in the following directions: innovations, automation, IT, telemechanics and telecommunications; power generation; compressor station equipment; offshore oil and gas field development technologies; security systems for buildings and structures; energy saving and environmental protection; novel medical technologies; project finance.

In June 2010 Gazprom and Siemens inked the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the area of liquefied natural gas.
