What Worries the “Heart” of the Leader?

Scientific conference on KAMAZ power units has acquired an international status. “KAMAZ – Diesel Inc.” was the initiator of the conference. Yesterday the guests from Moscow, Saratov, Volgograd, Kazan, Orenburg and other Russian cities, and also representatives from CIS and western companies took part in plenary session of the conference and discussed problems of diesel engine building. Among the guests there are 11 of those who have a bachelor degree of Doctor and 23 with a Philosophy degree in Science.

Greeting the participants, Irek Ghumerov, Deputy Director General of KAMAZ Inc on components stated that the aim of the conference was to estimate the reliability, economical efficiency and safety to environment of KAMAZ engines as compared with domestic and western ones. KAMAZ designers, technologists, and production engineers, scientists and experts from automobile, bus, tractor and harvester assembling companies will share their results on scientific researches and developments. “The main goal is to bring together those who share the same ideas and who will try to solve problems together” - he said.

Gennady Kornilov, first Deputy Director General of NAMI National Scientific Centre was the first who took the floor at the meeting. He emphasized the input that KAMAZ has made into prohibition of Euro-0 engines and into a new concept of development of the Russian Automobile industry. “ Thanks to a new generation of engines, Russia has moved from the “dead point” and its production made a large step forward”. He thinks that KAMAZ has got all the chances to start production of new Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines within the time limits specified by the Conception and to maintain a leading position among automobile OEMs. With reference to the status and the future of diesel engine building, Gennady Kornilov mentioned the favorable perspectives of diesel engine application: “The world tendency is such, that by 2010 actually half of trucks and passenger cars will be powered with diesel engines ”. Mr. Kornilov also mentioned about use of alternative fuels, and shared with the latest developments of NAMI.

Nail Ghataullin, Chief Engine Designer of KAMAZ inc., told the conference members about available types, new developments and changes in design of KAMAZ engines. Nicholai Svetlichny, Chief Engineer of KAMAZ-Diesel Inc., informed about the technical specifications and possibilities of new equipment. Before the conference, he arranged the visit of conference participants to the production site and they witnessed a cylinder block processing, high-speed milling, new items production, hydraulic units, and crankshafts. They were shown a site where a new flexible automatic line for piston processing was being mounted, then they visited an assembling complex and engine test cells.

During the second half of the day, the guest visited the main assembling line of the automobile plant. Today they are continuing their work in 4 conference sections, i.e.: design, technology, operation and economics.
