COMSTAR launched provision of new telecom services for new Sheremetyevo airport Terminal D

December 21, 2009, Moscow. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, has announced the launch of communication services for the new Terminal D of Sheremetyevo international airport.

In June 2008, COMSTAR-UTS won the tender of OAO Terminal for telecom networking and provision of communication services for the new Terminal D of Sheremetyevo international airport.

The project roll-out included COMSTAR-UTS connection of Sheremetyevo airport Terminal D to a dedicated segment of their own multi-service fiber optic network deployed over the territory of Mytischi, Khimki, Solnechnogorsk and Krasnogorsk areas of Moscow region. A full-scale communication center based on Cisco, Avaya, Quintum and ZyXEL equipment has been set up to meet the demands of the airport terminal. Continuous service provision is provided by two own independent communication channels – the main and backup – with a capacity of 1 Gbps each connected to the COMSTAR-UTS Moscow network. Functionally, the COMSTAR-UTS telecommunication infrastructure of Sheremetyevo is subdivided into the telephone network, SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transport network, and data communication network.

With the latest technology used and own well-developed infrastructure, COMSTAR is able to offer a whole range of services and technologies”, Aleksey Goncharuk, First Vice President of JSC COMSTAR-UTS said. – It’s for 15 years now that we have been co-operating with Aeroflot at Sheremetyevo. Thanks to our high-capacity backbone network built in Moscow Region, we may provide telecommunication services to customers of any level”.

COMSTAR networks enable provision of a full range of required telecommunication services for all categories of airport consumers – passengers and visitors, operational and other services and tenants. Terminal D is equipped with digital telephony (local, inter-urban, and international), as well as broadband Internet access. The building features rolled out wireless broadband access network based on Wi-Fi (27 hot-spots), 14 next-generation payphones are installed, 7 of them are specially designed for physically handicapped. The company plans for perspective are to provide IPTV services. The terminal building will have prepayment card outlets allowing visitors to use payphone communication facilities and Internet access. Besides, the new terminal provides opportunities for SMS authorization in the Wi-Fi network for MTS subscribers.

COMSTAR offered a complex of main and value-added telecommunication services, an optimum of price-quality ratio and to meet the high standards of modern airport. In Sheremetyevo, we are implementing the Triple Play concept that combines conventional and package VoIP telephony, wired and wireless broadband Internet access and multimedia content provision. Besides, our network allows to easily scale the scope of services and promptly introduce new services to be used in the Terminal, such as video conference communication, data processing center services, development of virtual private networks (VPN) and intelligent communication services based on IP Centrex, Dmitry Dronov, Head of COMSTAR-UTS Moscow regional subsidiary said.

All types of hardware installed inside the Terminal D are fitted with continuous remote monitoring from the COMSTAR-UTS Network Monitoring center. Inside the airport, subscribers are served by a specially allocated unit of the COMSTAR-UTS Moscow regional branch – Sheremetyevo Communication Services Center (CSC) to ensure 24-hour technical support and prompt response to emergencies.

COMSTAR-UTS have been providing a full range of communication services in the Sheremetyevo airport since 1994. The carrier has a great experience of co-operation with aviation companies. COMSTAR clients include more than 200 leading Russian and foreign air carrier companies and other business structures.
