The Gazprom Headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and John Beyrle, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Russia.
The parties discussed the prospects for the Russian-American cooperation in the energy sector. A unanimous opinion was expressed that opportunities for the constructive and effective interaction were available in this area.
Background:
The United States of America is one of the most promising LNG markets in the world.
In August 2005 Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GMT), which is part of Gazprom Group, signed an agreement for LNG supply to the US market with Shell Western BV and BG Group. The first tanker arrived at the Cove Point gasification terminal (Maryland, USA) in September 2005.
In September 2006 Gazprom and BP closed a deal to supply LNG to the Atlantic basin countries. Under the reached agreements BP supplied LNG to GMT for further marketing, inter alia, in the USA.
In 2006 Gazprom Marketing & Trading USA was set up in Houston to deal with trading operations, transportation and regasification capacities leasing, LNG purchasing and Gazprom Group’s business development on the long-term basis.
