On working meeting of Alexey Miller, Valdemar Pavljak, Jerzy Bahr, Michal Szubski and Pawel Olechnowicz

The Gazprom Headquarters hosted today a working meeting of Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee, Valdemar Pavljak, Vice Premier and Economy Minister of the Republic of Poland, Jerzy Bahr, Ambassador of Poland to Russia, Michał Szubski, President of the Management Board of PGNiG SA and Pawel Olechnowicz, President of the Management Board of Lotos SA.

The parties discussed a wide spectrum of issues with regard to the cooperation in the petroleum sector. A focus was put on the implementation of the contracts for gas supply from Russia as well as the terms of hydrocarbon transit across Poland.

During the meeting emphasis was also placed on the interaction between Gazprom and PGNiG in the frames of EuRoPol GAZ.

In general, the parties gave a positive evaluation of the Russian – Polish cooperation in the energy industry and confirmed their interest in further developing the mutually beneficial long-term partnership.

 

Background:

Poland’s annual natural gas consumption is about 13.7 bcm, with around 30 per cent produced domestically. In 2007 Gazprom export supplied Poland with some 6.98 bcm of Russian gas.

PGNiG SA is the largest Polish state company operating since the mid-1970s and specializing in gas and oil field development, energy carrier production as well as oil and gas transport network construction and development, gas import and export.

Lotos SA is a vertically integrated oil group comprising more than a dozen of business units. The company owns > 6 mln t/yr refining capacity and operates about 400 refuelling stations in Poland.

The EuRoPol GAZ Transit Gas Pipeline System was incorporated in September 1993. The company is the owner of a 684-km-long Polish section of the Yamal – Europe gas pipeline and five compressor stations providing for the gas pipeline capacity of some 30 bcmpa. Gazprom and PGNiG are the major shareholders of EuRoPol GAZ.
