MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

O Mosenergo's heating grid to implement a seasonal cut in hot water supply in Moscow

As usual, upon the end of the heating season, first cuts have been made in several Moscow districts on May 13. At the order of the Moscow Government, due to the beginning of the summer, AO Mosenergo stopped to provide heat to industrial and administrative facilities, schools and kindergartens. On May 15, the heating was turned off at hospitals and polyclinics.

Usually, the water is heated to a certain temperature and supplied through pipelines to the central dispatch stations of the Mosgorteplo Company. Part of the heated water is then used for heating purposes and the rest is used to heat the fresh water, also supplied through the Mosgorteplo pipeline grid.

The hot water is turned off every year during the summer season in order to conduct maintenance and repair work necessary to prepare for the next heating season. These preparations will continue until August 29. The management of AO Mosenergo's branch “Teplovye Syeti” supervises the operations. Mosgorteplo also repairs heating lines.

The repairs of pipelines in each Moscow district will last for 21 days. The repair procedure provides for pressure testing of heating lines (testing them for tightness and strength). If defects are detected in pipes, new pipes are installed within that period. After the repairs, pipelines are tested to hold the required temperatures.

The total length of Moscow's heating lines is 2,345 km. Currently, 121 km of pipelines (5%) have been tested. All works are conducted in strict compliance with the preset schedule. In addition to replacing unreliable pipes, AO Mosenergo plans to replace 70–100 km of pipes with expired amortization lives.

In preparation for the next heating season AO Mosenergo will replace auxiliary equipment at heating facilities, including the replacement of sealing compensators with silphone ones. AO Mosenergo also plans to check and repair 20 pumping stations. Before the start of the heating season the company intends to complete the construction of two new pumping stations—Khalilovskaya and Yuzhno-Izmailovskaya.

Currently, AO Mosenergo intensified the repairs at heating facilities, planning to finish these operations exactly meeting the time limits set for different Moscow districts and the general preparation schedule. If serious defects are detected, the company may ask the Moscow Government to extend deadlines for repairs. However, AO Mosenergo guarantees the timely resumption of water supply to consumers and uses the extensions only as a last resort.
