September 2, 2021, Vladivostok, Russia. PJSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces commissioning of the first energy renewable energy source power complex in Ulakhan-Kuel, Yakutia under the energy service agreement.

The new power complex will provide reliable electricity supply to the remote village in Yakutia. It consists of automated system encompassing a modern 600 kW diesel power plant, 400 kW solar power plant and 125 kW energy storage unit. Utilization of renewable energy source together with modern other types of modern power generation will allow to reduce diesel consumption by as much as 45%.

Commissioning of the facility in Ulakhan-Kuel took place under tight deadlines: the energy service contract between JSC KER and JSC Sakhaenergo (RusHydro Group’s subsidiary) was signed on July 22, 2020. The mechanism of energy service contracts provides for financing of the project to be carried out by investors. Sakhaenergo will operate the commissioned power complexes. Return on investment will take place over 10 years based on achieved efficiency from cost of fuel reflected in the tariff. Upon termination of the return on investments period, ownership of the power complexes will be transferred to Sakhaenergo.

Energy service contracts provide for commissioning of autonomous power complexes including high efficient diesel power plants, renewable energy sources (solar or wind power plants) as well as energy storage system. Such power complex reduces environmental footprint as compared with conventional thermal power plant and allows to save from 15% to 70% on the cost of fuel depending on the climate conditions.

The first energy service contracts for commissioning of autonomous power complexes in six villages in Yakutia were entered into in 2020. Currently such contracts are in place in 47 residential areas of the region and 25 more are expected for signing in the current year. RusHydro plans to carry out such energy service contracts in 72 and 7 residential area in Yakutia and Kamchatka, respectively.

Up to date, RusHydro has already commissioned wind power plants in Kamchatka (Nikolskoye and Ust-Kamchatsk) and Sakhalin as well as 21 solar power plants in Yakutia, including Batagay, the largest SPP beyond the polar circle. Together with Japanese partners, RusHydro has commissioned a wind-diesel power plant in arctic village Tiksi consisting of 900 kW wind power plant, 3,000 kW modern diesel generators and an energy storage system.
