Severstal is the only Russian ferrous steel mill which ranked in the top ten most actively developing and steady growing companies in 2001 as judged by the Russian Economic News Agency.

The main criteria of the rating were: growth in authorized stock capital, turnover, prestige and potential for future development. The rating was done in two steps. At first, 50 companies, which met established criteria, were selected. At the second step only 10 best companies were chosen. These ten companies, which received the highest marks, were included in the rating.

The rating was done by Economic News Agency experts, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, senior managers of leading media and analytic centers, large companies and non commercial organizations.
