The contest was conducted to mark the 120th birthday of the Moscow City Telephone Network with a view to enhance the prestige of the worker trades in the field of telecommunications, popularize professional breakthroughs, skills and experience. The contest aims to advance the mastery of cable jointers, upgrade their job management, form a positive public opinion regarding the worker professions, and to attract the young people to work for the Company.
Twelve winners of the selection rounds held at all the OJSC MGTS telephone nodes who are the cable jointers of an at least one-year service record with the Company, took part in the contest finals. The final round assignments include examining theoretical professional knowledge pertain-ing to cable ductwork and soldering as well as of safety instructions and labor protection regulations, and the practical tasks envisaging employment of modern materials and technology.
The final round workmanship contest winner who is Mr. Sergey N. Dementichev, a 21-year old cable jointer at the Lyublinskiy Telephone Node (OJSC MGTS) and the youngest competitor, was awarded the "The Best In Profession" title and the prize money. And his professional grade was also raised. On the decision of the Transport and Telecommunications Depart-ment of the Moscow Government and the Moscow Telecommunications Workers Trade Union Committee, the winners of the OJSC MGTS final contest phase will be delegated to take part in the metropolitan Workmanship Contest "The Moscow Top Masters" which is dedicated to the City Day.
