Two companies completed one of the projects in the joint program aimed at significantly improving the quality of ChSPZ calibration shop's products. ChSPZ, part of the Severstal group, completed the next step of developing the production of rolled calibrated products with H-9 acceptance criteria.

As part of the joint project, straightening and polishing equipment, produced by SCHUMAG (Germany), was commissioned at the ChSPZ calibrating shop. The equipment's cost is 33.5 million rubles. The equipment is designed for straightening and polishing of rolled products and assuring that the H-9 acceptance criteria are met. The equipment productivity ranges from 1 to 30 tonnes per hour, depending on the diameter of the treated product.

The shop also received nondestructive checking equipment (defectoscope, magnetic test, etc), and special measurement instruments, which allowed to control whether the quality of end products corresponded with the requirements to its geometric characteristics and surface roughness.

TIn the first quarter of 2002, Volna-6 device was commissioned at the section rolling shop of Severstal for ultrasound control of section rolled products in rod stocks, which were used as the substrate for the calibrating shop. Calibrated steel of H-9 acceptance criteria is used in car making, machine building and machine-tool building.

Presently, the calibrating shop makes test samples for a number of foreign clients in Italy and Germany. It's expected that ChSPZ calibrating shop will sell 30,000 tonnes of calibrated products of the H-9 acceptance criteria a year.

Joint Severstal-ChSPZ program develops along several lines, such as mastering production of calibrated products of automatic steel (A-12), increasing volumes of sales of calibrated products made of the ball bearing steel (SHH-15), and mastering production of calibrated steel of the H-9 acceptance criteria.
