ALROSA and its management join efforts to support local communities in Yakutia against COVID-19

April 6, 2020 - ALROSA and its management together provide financing to counter a spread of coronavirus COVID-19 in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a home to the miner’s main operations and headquarters. As of April 6, 2020, the Company and its CEO are spending almost RUB 166 million to buy medical supplies and medical equipment including lungs ventilators for Mirny and Lensk districts of Yakutia.

ALROSA’s itself counter-epidemic spending in Yakutia currently stands at RUB 147 million. The Company procures mobile labs to run express testing before sending samples to institutions located in Yakutsk and Novosibirsk. It provided local hospitals in Mirny, Lensk and Aikhal with financial aid to purchase antibiotics, antivirals and other medicines and materials. The Company is in course of choosing a supplier to purchase lung ventilators and related equipment for the region.

ALROSAMedical Centeris actively procuring materials and protective equipment to assure health and safety of employees continuing to work. The Company has already purchased more than 300,000 facemasks for workers on sites, and continues procurement despite a countrywide shortage.

ALROSA’s facilities stay operational while the Company provides maximum protection for its employees. Administrative staff switched to “working from home” regime where possible. At time of publication, there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 neither in Mirny nor in Lensk districts.

In Moscow, the Company made its former administrative building in Moscow available to be utilized by the authorities in their counter-pandemic efforts.

Additionally, ALROSA CEO Sergey Ivanov provided financing of counter-pandemic measures in Mirny district using proceeds from the sale of a part of his stake (up to RUB 18.5 million) in the Company.
