Substation City is the first Russian 110/20/10 kV ele-gas substation of closed type. It is located on the premises of the Moscow International Business Center Moscow City and is linked to another AO MOSENERGO operating substation.

The new substation will supply power to the business center Moscow City, to a new subway leading to the business center, as well as to consumers located in the nearby districts. Previously in Russia they used only 6 and 10 kV voltage. The 20 kV voltage required to supply the new imported equipment installed in the business center (European standard) will make it possible to double the capacities. In addition, Substation City is the best Moscow substation by architecture, construction and installed equipment.

The construction of the substation began in 2001 and lasted one and a half years. The construction was completely funded by AO MOSENERGO. In total, the company spent on construction and laying feeding lines around 50 million rubles.

Mobile repair teams will carry out the maintenance and servicing of Substation City. The substation’s operation is fully automated. Only one person is needed to monitor equipment performance.

The equipment installed on the substation runs on ele-gas switches. In comparison with oil switches used before, the design of new high-voltage switches is simple and the operation costs are lower.

The main advantages of ele-gas switches are in the simple design, quick installation, long operation life (30-50 years), long period between repairs (20 years), high cut-off capacity (break short circuit at 63 kA), high mechanical and switching resource, ability to switch off non-recurring high capacity currents and fire safety.

AO MOSENERGO has installed on the substation two non-standard TDTSTN-6300/110Y1 63 kVAvpower transformers designed under a special project at the holding company Electrozavod. The substation has a special computer module based on relay protection chips, which were produced by ABB-Relay-Cheboksary and a 220 kV battery manufactured by Hoppecke Batterien, a German company.

AO MOSENERGO used in Substation City switching devices that ensure high reliability of the power supply-KRUE 11 kV, KRU- 20 kV and KRU 10 kV.

In comparison with other substations Substation City has a lower level of noise which is generally caused by ventilation systems, transformers and coolers.
