On March 21, 2003 special design bureau of laser technique of LOMO PLC will celebrate its 40th jubilee.

   In 60th LOMO became the first industry enterprise of our country, which started serial production of lasers. Only two years later after appearance of the first home laser special design bureau, occupied with this work, was established at LOMO.

   Both the experienced designers and the big group of young specialists, recently having graduated from higher institutes, came into the new bureau. Their work was absolutely fruitful - in 1965 the first native industry laser appeared.   Family of various lasers has become its successors. Among them there were unique lasers with brand "LOMO", perfectly justified for themselves in civic and defence devices. Designers of the bureau also constructed functionally finished settings and devices. So in the beginning of 80th laser setting for thermonuclear synthesis UMI-32 was designed by LOMO, this device has only several analogues in the world till nowadays.

   Today laser design and production is one of the more sophisticated and perspective directions at LOMO. The work under eye-safe lasers is conducted, serial samples of which don't yield to the best foreign analogues. Collective of design bureau with honor follows to traditions, formed at the firm 40 years ago.
