The first rolled steel at Severstal was produced in the blooming shop in February 1959. In November that year the largest in Europe steel rolling mill was put to operation. Cherepovets Steel Works became a company with a complete cycle of steel production. In 1962, it became the leader in the steel industry in Russia, its products successfully competed domestically and internationally.
   The first 100 million tonnes of rolled steel were produces in 21 years. In as much time the remaining 200 million tonnes were produced. It took a little over 12 years to produce the last 100 million tonnes.
   In three stages with the production of each 100 million tonnes the structure of output changed. The composition of 300 million of shipped products is this: 64 % is flat steel both cold rolled and hot rolled sheets, 32 % - section steel.
   The 300 millionth tone was produced at the Mill-2000 of the Sheet rolling plant #2, which produced over 1/3 (100.5 million tonnes) of 300 million tonnes of rolled steel. The anniversary tone of steel was produced by the fourth technological team, supervised by Vladimir Orlov, the Honored Steel Maker of the Russian Federation, awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Badge of Recognition. Vladimir Orlov produced the first output in 1959 at the first steel rolling Mill-2800, he also produced the first output at the Mill-2000 in 1975.
   Hundreds of Severstal employees, including labor veterans, which put to operation all rolling mills and produced the first tones of cold and hot rolled steel, section steel and joist web, company top management and line personnel, took part in a meeting commemorating the production of the 300 millionth tone of rolled steel. The list of guests included Mikhail Tarasenko, the Chairman of the Mining and Steel-making Trade Union of Russia, a group of representatives from the International Federation of Steel-makers (Germany) headed by their president Klaus Zwickel.
   Anatoly Kruchinin, Severstal's general director opened the meeting commemorating this event. He noted that 300 million tonnes is a large step in the company's history. According to Kruchinin, "If all rolled steel produced by Severstal is loaded in railway cars, the train 62,500 kilometers long will be able to encircle the globe 1.5 times, "
   Anatoly Kruchinin, stressed that the production of the 300 millionth tone is not a celebration of steel making, but the celebration of hard work of Severstal employees, mainly its veterans. He congratulated everyone with the coming Steelmaker's Day.
