Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), takes part in implementation of the federal project "Elimination of Digital Disparities". The objective of the project is to ensure high-speed access to information networks for small settlements with 250–500 residents. The works are being carried under the agreement between Rosseti, PJSC and Rostelekom, PJSC. The terms of this agreement provide for deployment of fiber optic communication lines (FOL) over overhead power transmission lines that will be used for transmission of data signals.
During the initial phase of the project, power sector specialists, in cooperation with the staff of companies contracted by Rostelekom, PJSC, performed the survey to determine 0.4–110 kV lines that will be covered by the project activities. At the moment, specialists install high-speed fiber optic line using poles of the power transmission line owned by Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids.
In 2016, seventeen settlements in the Inzensky and Veshkaymsky districts of the region will get access to high-speed data transmission services. The works will continue in the next year. It is planned to connect over 40 settlements.
