Specialists of Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies) perform the scheduled heavy maintenance activities at overhead power transmission lines. Over 7 months of this year, overhaul activities were completed at fourteen 35-110 kV overhead power transmission lines with the total length of 333 kilometers.
During the repair campaign, specialists of Ulyanovsk DG replaced power transmission poles, insulators, lightning protection cables, and defective wire sections. Other completed works include repair of undersurface sections of steel supports using waterproofing materials, straightening of reinforced concrete supports, painting of metal elements, renovation of safety signs and information plates, double wire securing at points of intersection with railways and motorways. In addition, specialists of the Regional High-Voltage Lines Service completed vegetation management activities at the rights-of-way areas using special-purpose machinery (mulching systems) covering the total area of 263 ha. Facilities where the repair operations are still underway include 110 kV overhead transmission line Vostochnaya 1,2 (along the bridge across the Volga), 110 kV transmission line Dimitrovgradskaya 1,2 and 110 overhead transmission line Severnaya 1,3.
These overhead power transmission lines are used to transmit power for a number of socially important facilities and enterprises of the region. Aimed to ensure safe and uninterruptible power supply for consumers in the Ulyanovsk region, the current repair activities are performed as an important stage of preparing the power grid facilities for peak-load operations during the autumn and winter season 2014/2015.
