According to Alexey Pertin, Severstal-Emal's general director, "In 2002, an increase in production totaled 1.5 million rubles a month. This was partly due to an introduction of a number of new products."
In June 2002, Severstal-Emal was certified by DuPont (France) - a world known producer of TeflonŽ non-stick coating. Presently, Severstal's products are being tested by this French company for their compliance to health and technology standards accepted in Europe. Cooperation with DuPont will allow Severstal-Emal to increase sales of crockery with TeflonŽ non-stick coating up to 360,000 units compared with the first order of 30,000 units. On top of traditional frying pans, Severstal-Emal is yet to master production of saucepans with non-stick coating and heat resistant handles.
The company has already signed contracts with clients in Denmark and South Korea. First shipments to Korea will take place as soon as this August. These are sets of crockery, made specifically for glass-ceramic stoves as the coating of the bottom surface of products allows for even distribution of heat.
In the fourth quarter of 2002, Severstal-Emal plans to begin production of pan cake frying pans of a large diameter ( up to 26 cm) with non-stick coating, braziers, which cane be used as molds for baking, and grilling pans with high sides and grooved bottom. The latter model is a creative adaptation of a European product to the Russian consumer requirements - a brand new product in the Russian crockery market.
In addition to improving the consumer characteristics of crockery, Severstal-Emal is continually putting forth efforts to renewing its design. The company regularly exhibits its innovative products at large consumer goods fairs. It is now preparing to take part in Hoztorg exhibit this Fall, where the company will exhibit not only crockery but also supplementary items such as enamels, packaging, accessories, etc. It's also considering taking part in Tendence fair (Frankfurt, Germany).
