On 23rd December 2005 the ceremony of commissioning of the first stage of the Vologda-Veliky Ustyug Fiber-Optic Communication Line took place.
The length of the line is 400 km. The line passes through the territories of Vologda, Sokolsky, Totemsky, Babushkinsky and Tarnogsky Districts. At the moment, this is the longest section of the fiber-optic line in Vologda Oblast. STM-16 level data transmission equipment has been installed on the new fiber-optic line. In 2005 the Company invested 119 million roubles in implementing this project.
The fiber-optic communication line based on SDH technologies will both improve connection quality and accelerate data transmission, will ensure reliability of information transmitted and will make it possible to connect settlements of Vologda Oblast in fractions of a second.
North-West Telecom is planning to commission the rest of the fiber-optic communication line, 150 km in length, in 2006. An investment of 69 million roubles is planned for the completion of the project.
