Severstal trade union was created in summer of 1952 when thee first shops of the steel mill were formed. It spun off from the trade union of the construction company's Cherepovetsmetalurgstroi, which built the steel mill in the North-West. The trade union was headed by Nikolai Perfiliev. At that time the it included 273 members of 351 employees of the first units of the new plant. As the plant grew, the trade union membership increased. By 1962 it included 26,000 employees -91% of the plant's workforce, in the next years it continued to grow, reaching 96%. Today 37,000 Severstal employees are trade union members. The trade union also includes members of the spun of businesses, such as Severstal-Emal, Severstal-Mebal, agricultural company Oktyabrsky and a number of construction companies. Over fifty years, Severstal trade union received a number of awards. Tomorrow it will receive an Honorary Diploma of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia for efforts in protecting labor rights and social-economic interests of Severstal employees. 510 trade union leaders, including workers, engineers and managers will receive various awards, thank you letters and diplomas and some - titles of an Honorary employee of Severstal.
