MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

December 24, 2001

On December 21, Arkady Yevstafyev, acting general director of AO MOSENERGO, held a press conference to summarize the company's performance in 2001

According to Arkady Yevstafyev, 2001 was a successful year for the company. “We stuck to an absolutely tough and consistent strategy regarding energy consumers which required that payments be made 100% in cash. It wasn't easy for consumers to understand this position, but ultimately the strategy fully justified itself,” said Yevstafyev.

Yevstafyev pointed out that AO Mosenergo operations, including winter preparations, were accompanied by growing energy consumption. The average energy consumption growth in Russia amounted to 1.4%, while in Moscow region it exceeded 3% (consumption by corporate clients grew by more than 4%). It was significant growth, Yevstafyev said, especially considering the same applied to heat production.

During the year the company completed the repairs of capital equipment, replaced 74 kilometers of heat lines (60 km under the plan) and repaired 88 equipment units (30% of the total).

During the report period the company also observed the limits for gas supplies to Moscow's TEZ stations, as well as stockpiled the required amount of fuel oil and coal reserves. Yevstafyev also stressed that AO Mosenergo had promptly paid for fuel, which helped to foster relations with suppliers.

Currently the company maintains and even exceeds the required fuel reserves, the acting general director noted. “At first, we doubted the necessity to exceed fuel reserves, as it diverted current funds; however, circumstances proved that we were right to create excess fuel reserves. This winter promises to be a cold one.”

Successful operations were reflected in the financial performance of the company. Sales were expected to amount to 45.2 billion rubles which is 36% higher than in 2000. The net profit of the company is forecasted at 1.9 billion rubles - 32% higher than last year.

In 2001, the company managed to resolve the problem of non-payments. “We expect that this year consumers will pay for all shipped electricity and heat,” Yevstafyev said.
